Vietnam Labor Skills Day (October 4)

On October 1, 2020, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1486/QĐ-TTg, designating October 4 annually as “Vietnam Labor Skills Day.”

Purpose and Significance

  • To call upon the domestic community to support and actively promote labor skill development through concrete actions, thereby elevating the standard of Vietnamese labor skills.
  • To encourage a spirit of lifelong learning and training aimed at enhancing the skills and qualifications of students and the workforce.
  • To honor and affirm the status and importance of workers possessing high-level and excellent vocational skills.
  • To foster collaboration and synergy among the State, educational institutions, and businesses in developing workforce skills to adapt to globalization and international integration.

The Role of Labor Skills

Labor skills are intrinsically linked to employment, wages, and social security, serving as a key factor in the quality of human resources. Skilled workers are the direct force behind the creation of high-quality products and services, contributing to increased productivity, operational efficiency, and the competitiveness of enterprises, industries, localities, and the nation as a whole. Developing vocational skills also serves to “enhance the country’s internal strength and endogenous capacity,” particularly amidst the contexts of digital transformation, the green transition, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and labor mobility associated with international integration. Direction for Comprehensive Vocational Skill Development

In accordance with the conclusion of General Secretary and President To Lam (Notice No. 123-TB/VPTW dated July 16, 2026), it is essential to ensure that workers are equipped with vocational, digital, and green skills, as well as workplace discipline and legal knowledge, while also having access to insurance and employment services.
